Manure Store, Powys

The Price family farm in Powys has been a long-standing customer of Powell & Co since 2020, when we built a 230ft x 65ft free range poultry unit and refurbished an existing unit.  To support the farm expansion Joe Price identified the need to efficiently manage the manure and reached out to Powell & Co to provide a solution.

Working with the design and technical team, a number of ideas were presented to Joe for consideration.  Following site visits and discussions on the best solution, we designed a steel frame 50ft x 105ft by 25ft manure store, which was erected in Summer 2026.  The store features an access point from one side of the building for the manure conveyor belt to go straight into the adjacent free-range unit. Manure is conveyed directly from the one free range unit into the store, and moved by trailer from the second free range unit located nearby into the manure store.

The key features of the manure store are:

  • Dimensions: 50ft (length) x 105ft (width) x 25ft (eaves height)
  • Steel-framed structure for durability and low maintenance
  • Slate Blue cladding
  • 10 metre motor-driven muck conveyor belt running for 2 hours per week
  • Positioned strategically for direct and adjacent ease of the free-range units

Why Powells?

“To support our free range production growth, we decided it was important to install a manure store to allow us to contain muck in a secure environment, ready for optimal times when we use it.  The store prevents water contamination, reduces odour and emissions, and importantly adheres to regulations related to Nitrate Vulnerable Zones. From initial contact through to completion, I was very impressed with the detail, high standard of workmanship, the durable finish, and the professional, proactive approach from both the site and office teams at Powell & Co.  There was minimal disruption to our farm operation and the team maintained a clean, organised site presence throughout the construction”, Joe Price.
