G Williams, Powys
Nestled in the Powys countryside is a new free-range poultry unit constructed for 3rd generation farmer Gareth Williams. In partnership with his parents Wyn and Myra, Gareth has a flock of 250 Welsh Mules which are lambed February/March and lambs sent deadweight to Randell Parker Foods. Over the last couple of years, Gareth has been working on a local poultry farm gaining first-hand insight into the sector. With the uncertainty of Brexit for the sheep sector, a decision was made to start a new business venture.
Gareth approached Powell & Co with the plans for his new business venture which now sees a 457ft x 65ft steel frame free-range poultry unit constructed and fully operational. The 32,000 Lohmann hens produce around 200,000 eggs per week which are collected ungraded by Oaklands where they grade and retail through the supermarket and food network.
